In a move to strengthen their backline, FC Dallas has acquired United States men’s national team defender Shaq Moore from Nashville SC. The 28-year-old right back joins Dallas in exchange for up to $150,000 in General Allocation Money, with performance incentives potentially increasing the total compensation.
A Proven Talent on the International Stage
Moore brings a wealth of experience to FC Dallas, having made 19 appearances for the USMNT since his debut in 2018. The dynamic defender featured in two matches for the U.S. at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and was also part of the team’s successful 2024 Copa America campaign.
His international pedigree and proven ability to perform on the biggest stages will undoubtedly bolster an FC Dallas side looking to make a deep run in the MLS Cup playoffs. Head coach Luchi Gonzalez expressed his excitement about the acquisition:
“Shaq is a top-level right back who has shown his quality in MLS, LaLiga2, and with the national team. His speed, 1v1 defending, and attacking instincts will be tremendous assets for us.”
– FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez
A Familiar Face for FC Dallas
Interestingly, this won’t be Moore’s first stint with the Texas club. The Georgia native actually came through the FC Dallas academy system back in 2014 before heading overseas to kick-start his professional career in Europe.
After gaining invaluable experience in Spain’s lower divisions with Levante, Reus Deportiu, and Tenerife, where he made over 100 total appearances, Moore returned stateside in 2022 to join Nashville SC.
Making an Impact in Nashville
During his time in Music City, Moore established himself as one of the league’s most consistent right backs. He featured in 82 matches across all competitions for Nashville SC, including starts in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Leagues Cup, and CONCACAF Champions Cup.
In his 61 MLS starts, Moore contributed a goal and 12 assists, showcasing his abilities in both the attacking and defensive phases. His departure leaves a significant hole for Nashville to fill, but general manager Mike Jacobs believes the allocation money gained will aid the club’s future roster construction.
“Shaq was an integral part of our success, and we thank him for his service. The resources gained in this trade will provide flexibility as we continue building a roster to compete for championships.”
– Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs
Dallas’ Defensive Boost
For FC Dallas, landing a player of Moore’s caliber is a coup. The club conceded 47 goals in 34 matches last season, tied for ninth-best in the Western Conference. Moore’s addition should help shore up the right side of defense and provide an upgrade over incumbent Ema Twumasi.
At 28 years old and with his prime years likely still ahead, Moore figures to be a key cog for FC Dallas, both in the short term and in the seasons to come. Signing a two-year contract with a club option for 2027 shows that Dallas views Moore as part of their long-term plans.
A New Chapter Begins
As the MLS secondary transfer window prepares to open on July 5th, FC Dallas has wasted no time in making a significant addition to its roster. Shaq Moore’s arrival signals the club’s intent to contend in a competitive Western Conference.
For Moore, it’s a homecoming of sorts, a chance to star for the team that gave him his start in the professional ranks. If he can replicate the form he showed in Nashville and continue his upward trajectory with the USMNT, FC Dallas will have pulled off one of the shrewdest moves of the transfer window.
The stage is set for Shaq Moore to shine in the Lone Star State. As he takes the field for his new club, expectations will be high, but if his past is any indication, the talented right back is more than ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
