The USC Trojans have secured a major boost to their rushing attack with the addition of coveted transfer running back Eli Sanders from the New Mexico Lobos. Sanders, who has one year of eligibility remaining, announced his commitment to USC after entering the transfer portal earlier this month.
Dynamic Playmaker Joins USC Backfield
Sanders brings impressive production to a USC offense looking to reload after losing its top two rushers from last season. The elusive back exploded for 1,063 rushing yards on just 147 carries—a stellar 7.2 yards per attempt—and reached the end zone nine times for New Mexico in 2024.
The Oceanside, California native is a homecoming for USC, adding a dynamic weapon to head coach Lincoln Riley’s high-powered scheme. Sanders showcased his versatility by adding 134 receiving yards, demonstrating the skills to be a true three-down back.
Instant Impact for Trojan Offense
Sanders fills an immediate need for USC after the departures of leading rusher Woody Marks to the NFL Draft and promising backup Quinten Joyner to the transfer portal. His explosive cutting ability and breakaway speed are an ideal fit for Riley’s spread system.
Eli is the type of dynamic playmaker that can take this offense to another level. He’s a homerun threat every time he touches the ball.

Reloading for Pac-12 Title Run
The addition of Sanders is the latest move for a USC program determined to bounce back from a disappointing 6-6 campaign and re-establish itself as a contender in the Pac-12. His electric open-field moves and natural pass-catching ability give the Trojans a complete back to balance a potent passing game.
- 1,766 career rushing yards and 13 TDs
- Explosive 7.2 yards per carry in 2024
- Proven receiving threat out of backfield
With Sanders in the fold, USC has addressed a major question mark on offense and appears poised to once again compete for a conference title. The former Lobo star has all the tools to emerge as the next great Trojan back and a centerpiece of Lincoln Riley’s attack.
From New Mexico to LA Spotlight
After initially beginning his college career at Iowa State, Sanders blossomed into a star at New Mexico last fall. Now the 5’11”, 205-pound speedster will have the chance to shine on a bigger stage and show he belongs in the upper echelon of college football’s top playmakers.
LA, let’s get it! Excited to be part of the Trojan Family and ready to help bring a title back to USC. The work starts now.

With Sanders onboard and his sights set on living up to the legacy of legendary USC backs, the Trojans’ offense looks primed to once again take the Pac-12 by storm. As one of the most electric additions through the transfer portal, all eyes will be on #21 this fall to see if he can elevate Riley’s squad back into championship contention.
