USC Football Stars Zachariah and Zion Branch Enter Transfer Portal

In a stunning development that is sure to shake up the college football landscape, USC wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch have confirmed their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The talented brothers, both former top-100 recruits, have been key contributors for the Trojans over the past two seasons but are now looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

Zachariah Branch: Electric Playmaker

Zachariah Branch burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2023, earning first-team All-America honors for his electrifying play as a kick returner. The speedy 5-foot-10, 175-pound wideout racked up 774 return yards and two touchdowns, tying for the team lead with 47 receptions. Over his two seasons at USC, Branch amassed 78 catches for 823 yards and three scores, while adding 87 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.

“The decision to move on was a tough decision,” Zachariah told ESPN. “I love USC! The hospitality and the love I received from everyone while being there was great. I just feel like embarking upon a new journey is what’s best for my future.”

Zachariah’s dynamic skill set and game-breaking ability will make him a highly sought-after commodity in the transfer portal. Schools looking for an instant-impact playmaker will undoubtedly be lining up to secure his services.

Zion Branch: Promising Safety

Zion Branch, Zachariah’s older brother, has battled injuries during his time at USC but managed to appear in all 12 games this past season. The redshirt sophomore safety recorded 19 tackles, three pass breakups, and one sack while playing a reserve role for the Trojans.

“The decision to move on was not an easy one,” Zion told ESPN. “I truly appreciate everything during my time at USC. From the relationships I built to the support I received on and off the field has been amazing. It’s been a place where I grew as a person and as a player. However, I believe that stepping into a new opportunity is what’s best for my development and future goals.”

Like his brother, Zion’s pedigree as a former top-100 recruit is sure to garner plenty of interest from programs across the country. With two years of eligibility remaining, he has the potential to develop into a key contributor at his next stop.

USC’s Mounting Losses

The departure of the Branch brothers is the latest blow for a USC program that has now seen 14 scholarship players enter the transfer portal following a disappointing 6-6 season. The Trojans had already lost top receivers Duce Robinson and Kyron Hudson to the portal earlier this month, with Hudson recently committing to Penn State.

USC head coach Lincoln Riley will have his work cut out for him as he looks to restock a roster that has been hit hard by transfers. The Trojans will need to find new playmakers to step up in the absence of Zachariah Branch and replace key contributors on both sides of the ball.

Looking Ahead

As Zachariah and Zion Branch embark on the next chapter of their football careers, they have a clear vision of what they are looking for in their next school.

“I am looking for a school that will help develop me, not only as a student-athlete, but help me grow as a person as well,” Zachariah said. “Somewhere that will allow me to prepare myself for the next level. I want to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are chasing the same goals.”

“I’m looking for a program that will challenge me to grow both on the field and in life,” Zion added. “I want to be in an environment where I can continue to develop as a student-athlete, push my limits and prepare for the next level. Being surrounded by teammates and coaches who share the same drive and commitment will help all of us push each other to reach our full potential.”

With their talent, work ethic, and desire to excel, there is little doubt that Zachariah and Zion Branch will be impact players wherever they land. As the transfer portal continues to reshape the college football landscape, the Branch brothers will be two of the most intriguing players to watch in the coming weeks and months.
