Toffoli Returns to Spark Sharks After Brief Injury Absence

The San Jose Sharks are welcoming back a key veteran presence as they prepare to host the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. Leading goal scorer Tyler Toffoli is set to return to the lineup after missing the past three games with a lower-body injury sustained during a morning skate on January 18th.

Toffoli’s absence was certainly felt by the Sharks, who managed just one goal in a 4-1 road loss to the New York Islanders the day of his injury. The 32-year-old forward has been a steady offensive contributor for San Jose this season, racking up 17 goals and 30 points through 47 games.

We were fortunate that (it) didn’t linger longer, and to get him back is important. He’s a veteran guy that’s won a Stanley Cup. He’s important for this group.

Toffoli Brings Championship Pedigree

Toffoli’s experience and leadership have been invaluable for a Sharks team looking to establish a new identity. The two-time 30-goal scorer won a Stanley Cup championship with the Los Angeles Kings in 2014 and has suited up for 859 career NHL games, amassing an impressive 551 points.

Since being selected in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft, Toffoli has showcased his scoring touch with the Kings, Canucks, Canadiens, Flames, Devils, Jets, and now Sharks. His 277 goals and 274 assists prove he can be a consistent offensive threat in a variety of roles.

Sharks Claim Duehr Off Waivers

In addition to Toffoli’s return, the Sharks lineup will feature another fresh face on Thursday. Forward Walker Duehr will make his team debut just one day after being claimed off waivers from the Calgary Flames.

(He brings) some size, some speed. (He’s a) north-south type of hockey player.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound winger notched one assist in 16 games with the Flames this season. Duehr will aim to make an immediate impact and carve out a regular role in the Sharks’ bottom-six forward group.

Full Strength for Predators Tilt

With Toffoli back to full health and Duehr adding some fresh legs, the Sharks will have a couple of new looks to throw at the Predators. San Jose is looking to snap a frustrating four-game losing skid and start building some positive momentum in the season’s second half.

  • Toffoli has 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in his last 5 games vs. Nashville
  • Sharks are 7-3-0 in their last 10 home games against the Predators

The Sharks and their fans are undoubtedly thrilled to have Toffoli back in teal. His return, along with a few other tweaks to the lineup, could provide just the spark San Jose needs as they eye a critical two points against a tough division rival.
