Week 10 of the NFL season brought intense matchups and plenty of sideline sass. The Pittsburgh Steelers emerged victorious in a nail-biting 28-27 win over the Washington Commanders, but it was their postgame social media antics that really stole the show.
Terrible Towels Reign Supreme
The Commanders attempted to neutralize the power of the Steelers’ iconic Terrible Towels by distributing their own burgundy rally rags to fans at FedEx Field. However, Pittsburgh proved that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery with a couple of clever posts on Twitter.
Often imitated, never duplicated
– Pittsburgh Steelers Twitter account
The Steelers shared an edit of a viral video from shooting coach “Lethal Shooter” with the caption “Not playin,” making it clear they weren’t intimidated by Washington’s towel tactics. As the saying goes, there’s only one Terrible Towel – accept no substitutes!
A Hard-Fought Victory
On the field, it was a battle until the very end. The Steelers took the lead on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to recently acquired receiver Mike Williams with just over two minutes remaining. The Commanders had a chance to mount a comeback drive, but turned it over on downs after a controversial spot of the ball.
Pittsburgh then faced a crucial 4th and 1, but drew Washington offsides to seal the win, their fourth straight. In a game of inches, the Steelers found a way to come out on top – and have a little fun at their opponent’s expense afterward.
Other Week 10 Trolls and Highlights
- Bills blast Colts: Buffalo forced four turnovers in a 30-20 win over Indy, then took playful jabs at the Colts’ horseshoe logo and ex-punter Pat McAfee.
- Saints slay streak: After snapping a seven-game skid vs. the Falcons, New Orleans used Atlanta comedian Druski in a troll video.
- Vikings plunder Jaguars: Minnesota mocked Jacksonville’s “DUUUVAL” chant and mascot in a dominant defensive performance.
- Patriots breeze by Bears: New England brought the “WIN” to the Windy City, allowing just 142 yards in a road rout of Chicago.
With statement victories and snarky posts, these teams won the weekend both between the lines and in the Twitterverse. As the playoff race heats up, expect the trolling to intensify right along with it in the NFL’s meme matchups down the stretch.
