The Seattle Seahawks have found their new offensive coordinator, turning to a well-known NFL coaching family to fill the role. ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that the team is hiring Klint Kubiak, son of former Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, to lead their offense in 2025.
A Meticulous Search Ends with Kubiak
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald took his time in the search process, spending nearly three weeks to find the right replacement for Ryan Grubb, who was dismissed after just one season. The team conducted multiple interviews, including in-person meetings with at least two other candidates:
- Hank Fraley, Detroit Lions offensive line coach
- Grant Udinski, Minnesota Vikings assistant OC/quarterbacks coach
Ultimately, it was the 37-year-old Kubiak who won over Macdonald and the Seahawks brass. Despite his relatively young age, Kubiak brings valuable experience, having served as an offensive coordinator for the Vikings in 2021 and the New Orleans Saints in 2024.
Offensive Philosophy Alignment
While Kubiak’s recent offenses in Minnesota and New Orleans didn’t put up eye-popping numbers, ranking middle of the pack in most categories, the Seahawks are banking on his strong reputation and philosophical alignment with Coach Macdonald. The team reportedly wanted to lean more heavily on the run game, an area where Grubb and Macdonald didn’t see eye to eye.
In picking Kubiak, Macdonald didn’t stick to his roots and pluck from the Harbaugh coaching tree, but he did hire someone from another well-known coaching family.

Geno Smith’s Future Looms Large
With their new offensive coordinator in place, the Seahawks must now turn their attention to quarterback Geno Smith. The 34-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and seeking an extension, but it remains to be seen if the two sides can come to an agreement. Smith’s future in Seattle is one of the biggest questions facing the franchise this offseason.
Sibling Rivalry in the NFC West
Klint Kubiak won’t be the only member of his family calling plays in the NFC West next season. His younger brother, Klay, was recently promoted to offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan. The sibling rivalry adds an intriguing layer to an already competitive division.
As the Seahawks turn the page to a new chapter on offense, all eyes will be on Klint Kubiak to see if he can elevate a unit that underachieved in 2024. With a crucial decision looming on their quarterback and the 49ers’ new play-caller sharing the same last name, the pressure is on in Seattle to get this hire right.
