Winn, 50, played for the Giants from 2005-2009 as part of a solid 13-year MLB career. The switch-hitter batted .290 with 51 home runs and 262 RBIs during his tenure in San Francisco. But it’s his post-playing experience that likely appealed most to Posey and the Giants brass.
After hanging up his cleats, Winn stayed involved in various roles around the game. He served as the Giants’ roving outfield and baserunning instructor from 2013-2016 before becoming a special assistant to the GM and later a pro scout under director of pro scouting Zack Minasian, who was just promoted to GM in November.
