Megan Thee Stallion Granted 5-Year Restraining Order Against Rapper Tory Lanez

Hip hop star Megan Thee Stallion emerged victorious in court this week, securing a 5-year restraining order against fellow rapper Tory Lanez. The protective order, granted by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Bloom, will remain in effect until January 9, 2030.

Megan petitioned the court in November, alleging that Lanez has been harassing her through third parties while serving his 10-year prison sentence for shooting her in the feet in July 2020. The “Savage” rapper claimed Lanez is coordinating online attacks on her credibility from behind bars, including making false claims about missing evidence in the case.

Rapper Convicted of Assault

In December 2022, a jury found Lanez guilty of three felonies related to the shooting:

  • Assault with a semiautomatic firearm
  • Carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle
  • Discharging a firearm with gross negligence

During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shouted “Dance, b****!” while firing at her feet as she walked away from a vehicle they had been riding in after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s home. The “WAP” rapper has said she required surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.

Judge Denies New Trial

Lanez’s attorneys filed a motion for a new trial, but the judge denied the request. The rapper’s legal team has said they plan to appeal his conviction and 10-year sentence.

I respect the judge’s decision, but strongly disagree. I remain 100% confident in Tory’s innocence and look forward to presenting new evidence in our appeal.

Megan’s Star Rises

The legal victory caps off a stellar few years for Megan Thee Stallion’s career, even as the criminal case made headlines. The 29-year-old rapper has scored two No. 1 singles – “Savage” featuring Beyoncé and Cardi B’s “WAP” on which Megan is a featured artist. She also took home the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2021.

With the restraining order in place, Megan can now focus on her thriving music career without fear of harassment from her convicted attacker. The hip hop community will be closely watching to see if Lanez’s appeal gains any traction, but for now, the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper can savor her court win.
