In a stunning display of determination and grit, the Detroit Lions proved they’re “built to win” under any conditions, dominating the Green Bay Packers 24-14 at a rain-soaked Lambeau Field on Sunday. Head coach Dan Campbell’s crew secured their third straight road victory over their NFC North rivals, a feat not accomplished since the late 1980s.
Lions Roar in the Rain
Despite facing chilly, windy, and wet conditions in their first outdoor game of the season, the Lions proved they’re no mere dome team. Quarterback Jared Goff turned in a masterful performance, completing 18 of 22 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown without a single turnover.
“We’re chameleons and whatever takes to win in whatever way, that’s what we’re gonna do,” Goff declared after the game.
The Lions’ ground game also shined, with running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combining for 138 rushing yards and a touchdown. All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continued his dominance, snagging seven catches for 56 yards and a score.
Defense Delivers in Key Moments
Not to be outdone, the Lions’ defense stepped up when it mattered most. Safety Kerby Joseph recorded the first pick-six of his NFL career just before halftime, giving Detroit a commanding 17-3 lead. The unit held strong throughout, allowing just one late touchdown in the final minutes.
“We know we’re killers, man. Killers, kill. That’s what we do,” cornerback Amik Robertson stated emphatically.
Goff, St. Brown Make History
Sunday’s win was a historic one for several Lions players. Goff became the first quarterback in NFL history to complete 80 percent of his passes over a six-game span (minimum 100 attempts). St. Brown, meanwhile, set a record as the first wide receiver in at least 19 seasons to catch 30 consecutive targets.
Looking Ahead
At 7-1, the Lions sit atop the NFC and appear poised for a deep playoff run. But as Coach Campbell and his players emphasized, they’re taking things one game at a time.
“Each game is its own battle and its own journey, and I think we’ve gotten really good at flushing it away. Even if it’s a loss,” Goff noted. “Flushing it away quickly and turning over to the next game.”
Next up for the Lions is a Sunday night showdown with the Houston Texans, their fourth road game in the last five weeks. If Detroit can maintain the focus and intensity they displayed in Green Bay, they’ll be tough to beat under any circumstances.
“There were a number of things we talked about: run game supremacy, we talked about explosives, as crazy as that sounds in that type of weather, but whoever could come up with the most explosives, field position and turnover ratio,” Campbell said of his team’s winning formula. “The fact that we took care of the football. We preached it all week. We worked it. Wet ball drills every day at practice outdoors.”
As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. And on a rain-soaked Sunday in Green Bay, Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions proved they’re built to win—no matter the conditions.
