Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari Test Drive Delayed, Driver “Totally Fine”

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed his acceptance of the delayed Ferrari test drive, stating that he is “totally fine” with having to wait until 2025 to get behind the wheel of the iconic red car. The British racing superstar, who is set to replace Carlos Sainz at the Italian team next season, remains committed to his current contract with Mercedes, which runs until the end of 2024.

Contractual Obligations Delay Hamilton’s Ferrari Debut

Despite his eagerness to begin his new chapter with Ferrari, Hamilton acknowledges the importance of fulfilling his obligations to Mercedes. The team has planned a series of sponsor commitments for the 38-year-old driver to complete before his departure, effectively ruling out the possibility of participating in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi later this year.

I was in two minds [about] driving the red car for the first time in Abu Dhabi. That’s not exciting.

Hamilton had initially raised the idea of an early test with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur, but ultimately accepted that his current team would not allow it due to his contractual commitments. The Briton remains philosophical about the situation, stating, “In a perfect world, you get to drive it and not be seen and do the first rollout next year.”

Focusing on a Smooth Transition

While the delayed test drive may make Hamilton’s start to the 2025 season more challenging, he remains committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has expressed confidence in the veteran driver’s ability to adapt quickly to his new surroundings, given his vast experience and unparalleled success in the sport.

Hamilton, however, acknowledges that the delay in testing may have an impact on his performance in the early stages of the season. “Am I missing out on something? For sure,” he admitted. “It definitely delays the process and makes the start of the year harder. But we’ll do our best to recover.”

Pre-Season Preparations

Although the official pre-season testing is set to begin in Bahrain in February 2025, Hamilton is expected to have a closed test session with Ferrari in Italy in January. This will provide him with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the team’s older car and begin the process of integrating with his new colleagues.

As the Formula 1 world eagerly awaits the start of the 2025 season, all eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton and his highly anticipated partnership with Ferrari. Despite the challenges posed by the delayed test drive, the seven-time champion remains focused on his goals and determined to make his mark with the legendary Italian team.
