In an exciting twist, Houston Astros All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman and Los Angeles Dodgers pitching ace Walker Buehler have joined forces in a new venture – as co-owners of a promising racehorse. Their 3-year-old colt, March of Time, powered to his maiden victory in dominant fashion at the iconic Santa Anita racetrack on Friday.
Star-Studded Partnership
Bregman and Buehler, two of Major League Baseball’s most accomplished young stars, teamed up with Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and his wife Jill to purchase March of Time. The budding superstar on the track is a son of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, who was also conditioned by Baffert.
The Bafferts and Buehler, a longtime friend of the couple, previously partnered on several successful racehorses. But this marks the first racehorse ownership venture for Bregman, who reportedly is set to sign one of the richest free agent contracts in MLB history this offseason with the Boston Red Sox after a decorated tenure with the Astros that included two World Series titles.

Winning Debut for March of Time
March of Time made his first start for his new star-powered ownership group a memorable one. The chestnut colt was sent off as the betting favorite in a competitive maiden special weight race at Santa Anita on Friday. With Baffert’s go-to jockey aboard, he stalked the early pace before seizing command entering the stretch and drawing off to win by a widening 2 1/4 lengths.
It was an encouraging step forward for March of Time, who had finished a promising second in his only previous start for powerful global racing operation Coolmore before being purchased by his current owners. With his first victory secured, handicappers will be watching to see if he can follow in the hoofprints of his legendary sire Justify, who claimed the Triple Crown in 2018 with wins in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
Athlete Owners Making Their Mark
While March of Time still has a long way to go to match the accomplishments of Bregman, Buehler, and his own famous father, he’s the latest example of the growing trend of professional athletes investing in thoroughbred racehorses. NBA legend Michael Jordan, NFL stars Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown, and NHL great Wayne Gretzky are just a few who have gotten involved in racehorse ownership in recent years.
For Bregman and Buehler, March of Time offers an exciting opportunity to make their mark in another sport as they look to add to their already impressive resumes on the baseball diamond. Fans of both the Astros and Dodgers – and now racing enthusiasts – will be eagerly following March of Time’s progress to see if this new star-studded partnership can strike gold in the Sport of Kings as well.
