In a sudden turn of events, the PGA Tour has announced that The Genesis Invitational, hosted by golf icon Tiger Woods, will be relocating from its traditional home at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California to the famed South Course at Torrey Pines in San Diego for the 2025 edition. The move comes in response to the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area in recent weeks.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan emphasized the importance of sports as not only a diversion during challenging times, but also a unifier in bringing people together for a common cause. “Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards with the playing of The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines,” Monahan stated.
Torrey Pines Steps Up
With infrastructure already in place from this week’s Farmers Insurance Open, also held at Torrey Pines, the venue is well-equipped to host another premier event on short notice. The South Course, in particular, holds special significance for tournament host Tiger Woods, who has claimed victory there eight times, including his epic playoff win at the 2008 U.S. Open while battling a fractured leg.
We are grateful to the city of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament.

A Benefit for the L.A. Community
The Genesis Invitational serves as a key fundraiser for Woods’ TGR Foundation, which supports underserved students through education and character development programs. This year, in addition to its usual charitable initiatives, the tournament will also aim to support those affected by the wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
- The event will highlight the resilience of the L.A. community
- Fundraising efforts will support ongoing wildfire recovery
- The tournament will return to Riviera CC in 2026
While Riviera Country Club remains the long-term home of The Genesis Invitational, the 2025 move to Torrey Pines allows the event to proceed without placing additional strain on a region already grappling with the aftermath of a natural disaster. The tournament is expected to return to its traditional venue in Pacific Palisades for the 2026 edition.
Tiger’s Status Remains Uncertain
As for tournament host Tiger Woods, his participation remains a question mark. The 15-time major champion underwent a procedure called a microscope on September 22, 2023, relating to issues in his lower back. A procedure of this type generally takes around a month to recover from, so potentially Woods may return at some point prior to the scheduled commencement of The Genesis Invitational on February 12th, 2025.
Regardless of whether Tiger tees it up himself, his involvement as tournament host and the event’s charitable impact through TGR Foundation will undoubtedly make The Genesis Invitational a beacon of hope and unity for the Los Angeles community during this challenging time. The golf world will be watching closely as Torrey Pines once again takes center stage.
