Dolphins Release Pro Bowl RB Raheem Mostert After 3 Seasons

The Miami Dolphins have informed veteran running back Raheem Mostert that he will be released, his agent Brett Tessler announced on Friday. The move ends Mostert’s successful three-year stint with the Dolphins, during which he earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2023 after rushing for a career-high 1,012 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Mostert, 32, joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and quickly emerged as a key piece of their offense. He led the NFL with 21 total touchdowns in his Pro Bowl campaign and amassed 2,181 rushing yards and 28 total scores during his time in Miami.

Dolphins Moving in New Direction at Running Back

By releasing Mostert, the Dolphins are signaling a shift towards a younger backfield. Second-year pro De’Von Achane, who led all running backs with 78 catches and 592 receiving yards last season, is now poised to take over as Miami’s feature back. The team also spent a fourth-round pick on promising rookie Jaylen Wright in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season. Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.

What’s Next for Mostert?

Despite being on the wrong side of 30, Mostert should draw plenty of interest on the open market given his production and versatility. He has a track record of thriving in zone-blocking schemes and could be an ideal fit for teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, or Philadelphia Eagles.

For his career, Mostert has rushed for 3,531 yards and scored 40 total touchdowns. He’ll look to latch on with a contender and chase a Super Bowl ring in the twilight of his NFL journey.

Dolphins’ Backfield in Transition

Without Mostert, the pressure will be on Achane and Wright to carry the load for a Dolphins offense that has relied heavily on the running game in recent years. Head coach Mike McDaniel is one of the league’s brightest offensive minds, so expect him to find creative ways to maximize his young backs’ talents.

  • De’Von Achane: The second-year speedster has already proven himself as an elite pass-catcher and should see an expanded role in the running game.
  • Jaylen Wright: The fourth-round rookie out of Vanderbilt has the size and power to be an effective short-yardage and goal-line back.

The Dolphins’ decision to move on from Raheem Mostert marks the end of an era in Miami, but also the beginning of a new chapter for their backfield. As a proven veteran hits the open market, a pair of young, talented runners prepare to step into the spotlight and help the Dolphins chase a championship.
