The Boston Bruins finally found a way to win again on Saturday, snapping their six-game losing skid with an exhilarating 4-3 overtime victory against the Florida Panthers. David Pastrnak played the hero, scoring twice including the game-winner with just two seconds left in the extra frame.
Pastrnak Powers Bruins to Much-Needed Win
After dropping six straight contests, the Boston Bruins were desperate for a win. Enter elite winger David Pastrnak, who put the team on his back with a two-goal, three-point effort to lead them past the Florida Panthers.
Pastrnak opened the scoring on the power play in the first period and later delivered the decisive blow in overtime. His clutch performance helped the Bruins avoid their longest losing streak in over three years.
“Obviously, [the Panthers] were pushing hard. They are a really good offensive team,” said Boston coach Joe Sacco. “They found a way to tie it, but fortunately for us, we showed some resiliency in overtime, and we found a way to get one.”
Bruins Show ‘Resiliency’ in Character Win
It wasn’t the prettiest victory, but the Bruins will gladly take the two points any way they can get them right now. Despite being outshot 42-18, Boston hung tough and found a way to prevail thanks to some timely scoring and strong goaltending from Jeremy Swayman (39 saves).
- Morgan Geekie had a goal and an assist for the Bruins
- Oliver Wahlstrom scored his first goal as a Bruin to break a 2-2 tie in the 3rd period
- Sam Reinhart scored twice for the Panthers, including the last-second equalizer to force OT
Though they bent at times, the Bruins refused to break, showing the kind of determination and character that has defined much of their season. This hard-fought win could provide a much-needed spark as they look to get back on track and secure a playoff spot down the stretch.
Where Do Bruins Go From Here?
Snapping their losing streak was step one, but the Bruins know they still have a lot of work to do. Currently clinging to the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, every point is crucial for Boston with just a month left in the regular season.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier, with the high-powered Toronto Maple Leafs up next on Tuesday. But if the Bruins can bottle up some of the resilience and timely scoring they displayed against Florida, they just might find a way to rise to the challenge and solidify their postseason position.
