Allegiant Stadium to Host College Football Playoff Championship in 2027

In a monumental announcement for both the sports and entertainment meccas of the world, Las Vegas has secured hosting duties for the 2027 College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship game. Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Raiders, will serve as the backdrop on January 25, 2027 as the top two teams in college football square off for the title.

The CFP’s decision to award the game to Las Vegas speaks volumes about the city’s rapid ascent as a sports destination. CFP Executive Director Rich Clark glowed about the selection:

“Las Vegas has shown the world they have amazing venues and boundless energy to host an event like the College Football Playoff National Championship in spectacular fashion. I can’t think of a better stage to crown the best team in college football in 2027.”

A Championship First for Las Vegas

While Las Vegas has played host to countless marquee sporting events, from championship fights to the NFL Draft, the CFP title game marks the first time the city will host the finale of a major North American sports league. It’s a crowning achievement for a market that lacked any top-tier professional franchises just a decade ago.

The allure of Las Vegas for the participating teams and traveling fans is undeniable:

  • World-class accommodations and dining
  • Unmatched entertainment and nightlife
  • State-of-the-art facilities at Allegiant Stadium

Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, touted the city as the ultimate destination for an event of this magnitude:

“Pairing the energy of Las Vegas with the College Football Playoff National Championship will make for a truly extraordinary event, both on and off the field.”

Joining Select Company

Las Vegas becomes just the third city in the Pacific time zone to host the CFP National Championship, joining the Bay Area (2019) and Los Angeles (2023). It’s a feat few stadiums can accommodate with the requisite seating capacity, luxury suites, and modern amenities to host an event of this stature.

Opened in 2020, the $1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium should prove more than up to the task. The 65,000-seat domed venue boasts:

  • Nearly 130 suites and 8,000 club seats
  • A retractable natural turf field
  • Numerous VIP clubs and lounges

Those in attendance, and the millions more watching at home, will be treated to the full Las Vegas experience at the championship game. From over-the-top pregame festivities to in-game entertainment, expect nothing less than spectacle befitting a city that specializes in them.

The Road Ahead

Before Las Vegas takes center stage in 2027, the college football spotlight will shine on Miami in 2026, as Hard Rock Stadium hosts the winners of the Fiesta and Peach Bowl semifinals. Looking ahead, the CFP has not yet announced championship sites beyond Vegas.

As the CFP looks to grow the event’s footprint in the coming years, Las Vegas sets an intriguing precedent. Will other tourist hotspots throw their hats into the ring? Might we see the big game set against the backdrop of other world-famous strips?

One thing is for certain – the bar has been set high. Las Vegas will undoubtedly pull out all the stops in its debut as CFP National Championship host. And for the top two teams in college football, a chance to win it all under the bright lights of The Strip promises to be an opportunity unlike any other.
