In a horrific alleged domestic violence incident, a woman in her 30s has been left in serious condition with severe burns to her body. The shocking crime occurred on Saturday morning in Kingston, a suburb south of Brisbane.
Police were called to a residence on Kingston Court around 7:45 am after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the gravely injured woman who had sustained significant burn wounds. Paramedics immediately treated her at the scene before rushing her to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She remains in serious condition.
A 36-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries. The home where the woman was found injured has been declared a crime scene, with additional related crime scenes established at nearby Gould Adams Park and the Kingston train station as the investigation continues.
Domestic Violence Remains a Scourge
This horrific incident highlights the ongoing blight of domestic violence that continues to plague communities across Australia. Women are overwhelmingly the victims in abusive domestic situations:
- 1 in 6 women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner
- 1 woman is killed every 9 days by a current or former partner
- Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children
“We must speak out against domestic violence, support survivors, and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. The tragic circumstances of this case are a chilling reminder of the prevalence of this issue and the urgent need for change.”
– Karyn Walsh, CEO of domestic violence support service Micah Projects
Supporting Burn Victims
For the woman recovering from her injuries, the road ahead will be long and painful, both physically and emotionally. Severe burns are one of the most excruciating injuries, often requiring extensive treatment:
- Severe burns may need multiple surgeries including skin grafts
- Burn victims face a high risk of infection and other complications
- The physical and psychological scars can last a lifetime
Organizations like the Julian Burton Burns Trust provide crucial support, resources, and community for burn survivors and their families as they focus on recovery and rebuilding their lives.
A Community In Shock
The peaceful neighborhood of Kingston has been left reeling by this disturbing act of violence. Residents are grappling with the knowledge that something so horrific could happen so close to home.
“You just don’t expect anything like this to happen here. It’s truly shocking and upsetting. My heart goes out to the victim and her loved ones. I hope the police investigation provides some answers and that justice is served.”
– Sarah Campbell, Kingston resident
As the police investigation unfolds and more details emerge, the focus remains on supporting the survivor in her recovery and reinforcing the message that domestic violence is never acceptable under any circumstances. The Brisbane community will be watching this case closely, united in their condemnation of abuse and their support for victims and survivors.
