The Philadelphia 76ers are demonstrating their commitment to newly acquired guard Jared Butler by upgrading his contract from a two-way deal to a standard NBA agreement. Butler’s agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania that the Sixers will sign the 24-year-old to a two-year standard contract, solidifying his place on the roster for the foreseeable future.
Sixers Bolster Backcourt with Butler
Philadelphia acquired Butler, along with four future second-round draft picks, from the Washington Wizards in exchange for a 2026 first-round selection and veteran guard Reggie Jackson. The move provides a much-needed boost to the Sixers’ backcourt, which has been depleted by the loss of rookie Jared McCain to a meniscus injury in December.
Impressive Early Returns
In his brief tenure with the 76ers, Butler has already made an impact. The young guard has appeared in three games, starting one, and has averaged an impressive 10.0 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in just 17 minutes per contest. His ability to contribute immediately likely played a significant role in the Sixers’ decision to convert his contract.
Jared has shown he can come in and make an immediate impact for our team. We’re excited to have him as part of our future plans.
– Elton Brand, 76ers General Manager
A Journey Through the League
Butler, a second-round pick out of Baylor in the 2021 NBA Draft, began his career with the Utah Jazz. He spent his rookie season in Utah before stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards. In 123 career games, including three starts, Butler has averaged 5.7 points and 2.4 assists in 11.5 minutes per game.

An Opportunity to Shine in Philly
With the 76ers in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, Butler will have the chance to contribute to a winning team and continue his development under head coach Doc Rivers. His ability to handle the ball, create for others, and score efficiently should earn him a regular spot in the rotation as the Sixers look to make a deep postseason run.
As Jared Butler embarks on the next chapter of his NBA journey with the Philadelphia 76ers, the young guard has already proven he belongs. With a standard contract now in hand, he’ll have the opportunity to carve out a long-term role with one of the league’s most storied franchises.
