Josh Allen Cements MVP Status in Dominant Bills Win Over Jets

In a season full of memorable performances, Josh Allen may have delivered his signature MVP moment on Sunday. The Buffalo Bills quarterback accounted for three touchdowns – two through the air and one on the ground – as Buffalo throttled the New York Jets 40-14 to lock up the No. 2 seed in the AFC.

Allen’s stellar outing left his coaches and teammates singing his praises after the game. Head coach Sean McDermott didn’t mince words when asked about his QB’s MVP candidacy.

I don’t know what more else he could do. That’s consistency … he does it with anybody that he gets his hands on. I mean, it’s pretty clear cut for me.

An Unstoppable Force

On a day when he broke his own NFL record with a fifth straight season of 40+ combined passing and rushing TDs, Allen was simply unstoppable. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 182 yards and two scores, while adding 17 yards and a TD on the ground.

Allen’s connection with new weapon Amari Cooper continues to blossom. The two hooked up for an impressive 30-yard touchdown in the third quarter that effectively put the game out of reach.

That’s the type of quarterback he is. He’s gonna give you an opportunity. Every quarterback isn’t that way, for some reason.

Making His Case

Sunday marked Allen’s sixth game this season with multiple passing TDs and at least one rushing score, an NFL record. With one week to go, his MVP case is looking nearly airtight.

  • First player ever with 5 straight 40+ TD seasons
  • Bills franchise record 65 career rushing TDs
  • 13 different players have caught a TD from Allen this year

The eye test backs up the numbers. Just ask Von Miller, who has played with some all-time greats.

I played with Peyton Manning and Matthew Stafford. Those guys are special in their own right. But this year, Josh is just doing something totally different.

No Place Like Home

With the win, the Bills finished a perfect 8-0 at home for just the third time in franchise history. The last two times it happened? 1988 and 1990, seasons that ended with trips to the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl respectively.

Buoyed by an MVP favorite in Allen and the NFL’s highest scoring offense, these Bills have their sights set on an even bigger prize. But first, a well-earned rest with the No. 2 seed locked up.

At the end of the day, Josh Allen is the MVP…I’ve got a hard time believing that someone’s done more.

– Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott

Allen’s next chance to pad his MVP resume will come in the playoffs. If Sunday was any indication, he’s ready to put an exclamation point on a historic season.
