Coming off a much-needed bye week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked like a team reborn on Sunday, thoroughly dominating the New York Giants in a 30-7 rout at MetLife Stadium. The victory snapped a four-game losing skid for the Bucs, breathing new life into their once-fading playoff aspirations.
The Buccaneers’ resurgence was fueled by a revitalized offense led by quarterback Baker Mayfield, who accounted for four touchdowns on the day. Mayfield completed passes to a whopping 11 different receivers, tying a franchise record, and even hurdled his way into the end zone on a determined second-quarter scramble.
He just invigorates the entire team. We got a quarterback that does it all. It gets us excited because we see that we’ve got a different type of quarterback.

Ground Game Gains Traction
Tampa Bay’s often maligned rushing attack also came to life, churning out 156 yards on the ground. The backfield trio of Bucky Irving, Sean Tucker, and Rachaad White each made significant contributions, with Irving’s elusiveness and Tucker’s power running on full display.
The coaching staff’s creative use of defensive tackle Vita Vea as a blocker in short-yardage situations paid dividends as well, helping the Bucs convert a key fourth down on their opening touchdown drive.
Defense Holds Giants in Check
On the other side of the ball, a rejuvenated Buccaneers defense stifled the Giants’ attack. The return of starting cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum provided a major boost to the secondary.
The Bucs also welcomed back safety Mike Edwards, claimed off waivers during the bye. His presence allowed defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to deploy more aggressive schemes, leading to four sacks and a Jordan Whitehead-forced fumble that rookie Calijah Kancey recovered.
Mike allows us to do certain things. He allows Antoine to be Antoine and Jordan to be Jordan. He allowed the backers to free up some things for us and I guess the D-line to tail off when you know you got a safety valve back then I can see a lot of things.

Playoff Hopes Rekindled
Sunday’s convincing victory vaulted the Buccaneers to 5-6 on the season, just one game behind the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons. With the league’s easiest remaining schedule, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the path to the postseason has suddenly become much clearer for Tampa Bay.
The Bucs will look to build on their momentum next week when they host the struggling Carolina Panthers. If Mayfield and company can replicate the level of play they showed against the Giants, Tampa Bay could be poised for a second-half surge that seemed unthinkable just a week ago.
In a season filled with twists and turns, the Buccaneers may have saved their best act for last. With renewed energy and execution, Tampa Bay looks ready to make some noise down the stretch. The rest of the NFC has officially been put on notice.
