As the college football regular season winds down, the action on the field is heating up – and so is the creativity of team social media accounts. Week 12 saw some of the wittiest postgame trolls and jabs of the year, with the Ohio State Buckeyes leading the charge after their 31-7 drubbing of the Northwestern Wildcats at Chicago’s iconic Wrigley Field.
Bases Empty, End Zones Full
The Buckeyes cruised to their fourth straight victory on Saturday, shaking off an early Northwestern score en route to a dominant performance. With the Wildcats’ usual home of Ryan Field under renovation, the Big Ten clash shifted to the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. Ohio State’s social media squad took full advantage, firing off a clever baseball reference while touting the team’s offensive prowess:
Bases were empty ⚾️ but the end zones were full 🙌🏈

The tweet perfectly encapsulated Ohio State’s commanding win in enemy territory, drawing laughs and kudos from fans across the college football landscape. But the Buckeyes weren’t the only ones bringing the heat in Week 12.
Louisiana Tech Goes Emoji Wild
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs may not have posted gaudy numbers in their 12-7 road win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, with all their points coming via field goals. But what the Bulldogs lacked in offensive fireworks, they more than made up for with a post-game troll job featuring the Hilltoppers’ distinctive Big Red mascot:
How it started: 👀 How it’s going: 🫣

The side-by-side photos and on-point emoji choices perfectly summed up the Hilltoppers’ frustrating day at the hands of a stingy Louisiana Tech defense. Sometimes, you don’t need words to deliver a quality troll.
No Love for Texas
The Texas Longhorns emerged victorious in a hard-fought renewal of their old Southwest Conference rivalry with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Quarterback Quinn Ewers tossed two touchdowns, including a fourth-quarter strike to seal the 20-10 road win. As expected, the Longhorns weren’t exactly feeling the hospitality in Fayetteville – a fact they made clear with a tongue-in-cheek tweet:
Fixed it for y’all 🤘⬆️

Accompanying the tweet was an image of a “horns down” flag, a popular anti-Texas gesture, flipped upside down to become a “horns up.” The Longhorns got the last laugh, quite literally turning the taunt on its head.
Best of the Rest
While Ohio State, Louisiana Tech, and Texas may have taken home the trolling titles in Week 12, they were far from the only programs to get in on the action. Here are a few more of the week’s most memorable postgame barbs:
- The TCU Horned Frogs ribbed the Baylor Bears with a SpongeBob SquarePants GIF after a 29-28 escape in Waco
- Following a dominant Apple Cup win, the Washington Huskies suggested making the matchup a home-and-home series – in Seattle
- The Tulane Green Wave “conducted further research” to prove their Angry Wave logo is the best in college football
As conference championships and bowl season near, expect the competition – and comedy – to only get fiercer. In a sport fueled by passion and rivalry, a little clever trolling is par for the course. Just ask Ohio State, still laughing all the way from Wrigley Field.
